What's the process in installing the nose and tailUpdated 2 years ago
The nose and tail are installed after the top, bottom, and side rails are attached to the Frame.
- Mark a horizontal line with a pencil across the board a couple of inches from the front and from the back of the board.
- Use a hand saw, or circular saw with a track, to cut a near-perfect line all the way through the board.
- Use the extra pieces you just cut off the board to create the rough dimensions of your nose and tail block using your chosen lumber material.
- Once you have a block that will cover the nose and tail hole completely, apply plenty of glue (polyurethane or traditional wood glue should be fine) to the block and to the ends of the board where they connect.
- Have some strips of masking tape or duct tape ready to hold your solid nose/tail block to the board. Use more tape strips to apply tension and inward pressure on the block to create a tight seal on your board.
- When the glue is dried, roughly cut off any excess blocking material with a hand saw (Japanese hand saw works well) by using the top, bottom, and sides as natural templates/cut lines.
- Finish with an orbital sander to get closer to your final shape, and check for symmetry. Finish with hand sanding as you feather in the transition from the board and the newly added nose/tail block material
