When and how to install the side rails?Updated 2 years ago
Here is a useful way to do the side rails
- Mill two sets of 1/4” side rails 1” wider than the widest point in the board. This will be between around 4-6" depending on the board model.
- Attach inner rails to the board with glue and drywall screws (temporary clamps).
- Remove the drywall screws after the glue dries.
- Install the outer rails with glue, clamping in place with spring clamps as required to ensure solid contact with the first rail. This was every 6-8”. See photo.
Alternatively, you can use straps, longer clamps, or even tightened saran wrap across the width of the board. Just do one layer and one side at a time. I also recommend using screws at the nose and tail if you will be cutting those sections off for the nose and tail blocks. See the photo below.
